More About Sabra...

With over three decades of experience as a psychiatric nurse, my healthcare career began in 1992 when I combined the bachelor's degree in psychology I earned from Sterling College, and the nursing degree I achieved at Hutchinson Community College to work as a charge nurse on an acute-care psychiatric unit.  I later transitioned to an outpatient position at a mental health clinic.  The profound meaning and fulfillment I derived from this work convinced me that I had found my niche and fueled my decision to further my education in the field. I attended Wichita State University where I earned my master’s degree in psychiatric nursing in 2002. Later that year, I commenced my career as an advanced practice psychiatric nurse at a community mental health center where I honed my skills and expertise. Since then, I have served as a generalist offering psychiatric treatment to people of all ages including visiting schools, jails, hospitals, and as many as 30 nursing homes.

Aside from my professional endeavors, my other interests include reading, writing, continuous learning, and indulging in true crime shows. Although I make exercise a part of my routine, I don’t honestly classify it as pure enjoyment. Beyond all of my interests combined, however, my undeniable deepest passion is for my canine companions. They have brought me immeasurable joy and have been the most instrumental source of my own healing. My heart will always belong to their precious souls. In 2013, I united my love for writing and dogs, giving birth to “Barking Buoys: A Memoir About the Dogs Who Pulled Me Up for Air,” a book I self-published at the close of that year.

Known for my kindness, compassion, and exceptional listening skills, I draw from my own battle with PTSD to connect with my patients on a profound level. Having weathered my own traumas, I intimately understand the struggle which enables me to extend genuine empathy and insight to my patients. These qualities form the cornerstone of the strong rapport I develop with those under my care.

A few months back, I made a decision to transition into an exclusive online practice. The onset of COVID saw me shifting to remote work and conducting ZOOM appointments. Upon returning to the office when the pandemic restrictions eased, it became evident that remote services remained in demand, particularly by those who needed a more convenient and efficient way to receive care. This realization, combined with my determination to make psychiatric care more accessible to everyone, inspired me to establish Virtual Psychiatric Services.
